The CUE Radio lives
Looks like the CUE Radio is not dead after all. The following was emailed to a user views email listing about the CUE Radio.
So how do I begin discussing this issue without getting emotional? This project has been dear to the hearts of my colleagues and I for the last year and 4 months. It's exciting, innovative, and in our opinion, deserves a place in this new wireless world we all see unfolding. CUE's traditional business has been paging, that's the way we have earned our living for the last 12 years, after purchasing the company from Nokia. Recently, for about 3 years, we have been making significant progress in the Vehicle Telematics industry in the U.S. and in Europe. To date, we have acquired an impressive list of automotive industry clients - the who's who in the industry, for in-vehicle entertainment and navigation systems, as well as most of the automakers.
So why am I telling you this, well I think it helps explain our position in this particular situation. We see the technology and business model developed for the CUERadio for Handspring, as the initial launching of our wireless vision - in-vehicle and mobile. The CUERadio and devices like it, will compliment the in-vehicle systems we are currently developing. We want to deliver useful content to the user so that it is a seamless part of their everyday lives, not a burdensome installation or technology learning experience. We believe that the FM Radio Network we support is the only international solution for a lot of the wireless demands consumers are making today.
The short answer - YES the CUERadio module for Handspring will be released and we are committed to it.
We have nothing to hide here. We had some parts procurement issues at first, like everyone else in the industry, but those seem to be calming themselves now. ... We have a small handful of issues to resolve, once approved; we will give the OK to our manufacturer, who is ready and waiting to go. These issues are not showstoppers, but Handspring is very particular about supporting only the very best. We could not agree with them more. ... If we are guilty, its of being overly enthusiastic and announcing a release, too soon. CU Soon (I hope)!
