The Flip-Clip by Tactilis (a Latin word meaning
able to be touched) is one of those accessories that's
so simple in design you'll probably wonder "why didn't I
think of that?". It fits any Visor model (Visor, Deluxe,
Platinum, and Prism) and allows the use of a Palm III-style flip
cover on your trusty handheld.
Molded
in the U.S.A. from a high-grade polycarbonate, it is available in
both opaque black and transparent clear to match any Visor. The
clear is just that... clear. It's not frosted like the Visor ice
color; this lets the actual Visor color show through. You can
even see the Handspring logo on the face of the Visor through the
Flip-Clip. At approximately 3.125" wide, it adds about
.125" to the overall width and .0625" to the overall
height of the Visor at the top. It only weighs .16 ounces (4.6 g)
so you won't feel any difference in weight.
The
reproduction covers come in 7 translucent colors (graphite, ice,
blue, green, orange, purple, and yellow). Opaque black, dark
blue, and gray will be available soon). They add another
.125" to the width, making the total about 3.25", and
weigh only .5 oz (14.3 g) each.
Tactilis has announced the Flip-Lid, scheduled for release in
Q1 2001, that will be a flip cover molded specifically to the
shape of the Visor for a more "precise" fit. One of its
features will be a clear "read-through" window design
(handy for reading reminder alarms without having to open the
cover) and it will be available in all of the Visor colors.
Expect it to retail in the $6.00 to $8.00 range. The relatively
low cost of the covers will allow you to have multiple colors
that can be interchanged to suit your mood on any given day.
