Datebk4 More Features » Requirements
Requirements To include all the features of Datebk4 took no less that 416 KB, but now perhaps you have a taste of why this is so. The manual says that in order to install this program you need a minimum of 475 KB. So if you were wondering before why Handspring made a model with 8 MB, here’s exhibit A. Certainly an app of this size is somewhat groundbreaking—most other memory hogs are from databases (i.e. ebooks, Bible, reference data, etc.)—but certainly the future of Palm PDA’s will include larger and larger apps, especially considering the advent of color (a la Palm IIIc).
Because of its size and myriad of features, to get the most of this app requires a session of manual reading. This app has plenty to offer, even for those that don’t read the manual, but those that don’t read it are going to miss out, plain and simple.
Conclusion
It has already been billed by some as the datebook for the power user, and while not entirely true it does not miss the mark by much. (My wife is certainly no power user, but she uses it because of the ability to beam our schedules as categories.) This is an extremely powerful program that I recommend to anyone who is familiar and comfortable with his or her Visor, and is ready to invest a little time up front to learn to use the excellent features that Datebk4 has to offer. In my opinion, Datebk4 is an EXCELLENT datebook app, and the most exciting new software to come down the pike in the last few months.
NOTE: This app is in its first release after a major update. There are a few known bugs that the author is addressing. (None of which are cause enough to avoid this program.) Look for a maintenance update in late May or very early June. (Believe it or not, some “featurettes”—as the author calls them—have also been added in the maintenance release. These are in response to some small tweaks requested by users.)
