Palm organizers in the Classroom

Education Week has an interesting article about how Palm OS organizers have began to appear in more and more schools across America. They "can be programmed to run educational games, operate scientific probes, and receive data over the Internet."

Not many schools are using Palm OS organizers, but that could change. As the price has come down, these organizers are becoming more affordable and viable for use by children. Laptops are too bulky and expensive for children, but PDAs can easily be used outside and are the perfect size for small hands.

One problem is that there is not currently enough educational software. The Center for Interactive Learning Technologies, a nonprofit organization in Cambridge, Mass., is trying to correct that problem by having a contest where programmers write educational applications.
