The E2 isn't a replacement for a regular digital camera. The E2 is an
effective tool that allows you to easily carry a digital camera with you everywhere.
Still, the question is why you need this? Let me give you some examples of who
might use this and why.
Real Estate - Agents never know when they will need to take a shot of a home
and they almost never take a photo in the dark. Why carry around all the extra
equipment and materials necessary to take an instant picture? Why carry around
notepads and file folders full of documents? With this camera you can take a
respectable picture of a building or lot and annotate it on the spot. You can
write all the necessary information regarding the property in your Visor. No
slips of paper and you capture your first impression accurately. Also, imagine
having a client that is looking for a particular property and you just happen
to drive by something that fits that description. Grab your Visor, take a picture,
write down your notes, and e-mail it to the client using your wireless modem.
Architects/Designers - There are many situations where these professionals
have to go to a location where they are designing a base building or an interior.
Why not take the E2? You can take quick images and jot down your notes while
they are fresh in your mind. With an application like BugMe! Messenger, you
can even draw on the image and then e-mail it. Go back to the office and create
a PowerPoint presentation with the images. Then connect your Visor to the overhead
projector using the Presenter-to-Go and you can do a walk through with the other
staff.
Inventory - Not only can you use your Visor in conjunction with a bar-code
scanner, you could also use the E2 to capture images as well. You can keep a
record of not only what you have in stock, but what it looks like. This would
also work well for training purposes or for e-mailing images to buyers.
Insurance - You could send out a claims adjuster with an E2 equipped Visor.
Take a few quick shots of the damage, write up your notes and send the info
right from the location to speed up the claims process.
The most unfortunate aspect of the E2 is not the image quality, but that there
aren't enough developers taking advantage of this technology and building tools
to support it. There are thousands of possible applications for the E2 right
now, but where is the software? The E2 does an excellent job for something the
size of a saltine and is certainly a promise of good things to come. Add all
the possible applications of a PDA/camera and you have a winning combination.
Try not to think of what the EyeModule 2 cannot do for you, but with some imagination
what it actually can do.
