Please research before buying |
I have used my VPR for a couple of weeks now. I would recommend this unit for the following reasons. It is easier to read, the faster speed, and the color. There some things the VPR cannot do. The major drawback is that you cannot use the device in the broad daylight. In my case, I work in a office and most of time the VPR is in a bulding, car, or some enclosed area. This makes me wonder if you can hike (or do something outdoors) with the VPR and/or GPS. HMM. As the for the good points, it is sooo much easier to read that the VDX. DateBk4 in color makes your appointments stand out and you can look at you entire week in one glance. Speed is a very minor issue, but it does help on some slower apps like Avantgo. Recharable Li-Ion batts are nice, but I am thinking it may be wise to purchase the traveling usb/recharger cord. Please take heed!! That if you are upgrading from a VDX, your case may not work. I had Handspring case from Handspring and it WILL not fit. All things consider equal, I rather have my VPR vs VDX.

Visor - the next generation |
I'm very pleased with my new PRISM and find it far more readable and also snappier in execution. Some apps such as mail and games are much faster. Zap!2016 (Astraware.com) in color is amazing and ExpensePlus 1.09a (Walletware.com) is outrageous.

Really Bad Screen |
Being a happy Visor Deluxe user, I was looking forward to the Prism. What a disappointment!
The screen is the worse I have ever seen. It flickers like a bad TV set for about 30 seconds after powering up until "settling down" to intermittent fits. The screen's lighting is bizarre, running from dark and murky at the top to bright and washed out at the bottom. The colors are weak and the lack of contrast makes the screen difficult to read. This is true at all brightness settings and all lighting conditions.
It is a real shame that Handspring did such a lousy job with their first color model. It looks like, for color, the only real choice is the Palm IIIc or moving to a PocketPC.

Great Colour Display, Rechargeable Battery is a big plus |
I think that the colour display is a big step forward for the handspring. The screen is easier to read and it is a lot easier to play the card games in colour.

Ugly Design (What Design?!) |
Nice idea, but why so ugly and cheap looking? Handspring should take a look at the competition and spend a few bucks on an industrial designer. The Visors stick out like cheap suits and six dollar tie bargains.

Prism, Best PDA in my book! |
I own a Visor Prism unit and I would not give it up for love or money! Best unit I have seen for the money, color is fantastic. Nice thing is it has all the features of expansion for future and much more. Now if I could "ONLY" get the makers of the thincom modem to answer me about it not working with the new prism unit and they have not replied to 3 emails I have sent them.

Resolution is Low |
Compare to Compaq or HP products the resolution is way too low. I did not like the screen at all.
