The Visor Deluxe Rules. |
I just got my Visor Deluxe in Blue the other day, and it rulez. I took it to my friends house and they about worshipped it :-) It is so cool. Avantgo is especially a cool program. It is very fast, light, small, and comfortable to hold. It is just plain cool

does what I need it to do and thensome |
So far so good. However, I don't see a great advantage over other PDAs. Let's see what happens when the springboard modules come out.

Good value with some glaring faults |
Pros Cons
Pretty cheap
for 8MB.
The separate cover
is a pain and wastes
time each time I use it.
Backup Module
is cool!
No reset pin in
stylus?! What were
they THINKING?!!!
Nice screen.
Reset hole needs a
longer reset pin,
so the reset pin on
my stylus/pen is
useless! (doh!)
Feels sturdier
than Palm IIIx.
No room in battery
compartment for the
(now needed) paper
clip.
Love the world
clock.
I use AvantGo, and
I'm not at all sure
that my sync times
are faster than with
my IIIx (and PalmOS
3.30).

Love the VD. It's great! |
I found that for what you get w/ the VD and the price, you can't beat it. It's the most expandable machine available and at 1/2 the cost. Would recommend it to anyone.

The case is the only problem |
The Visor Delux is an Exelent piece of hardware, the built in software works wonderfully but the only annoyance is that the snap case is hard to get on and off (I mean you have to use two hands) and You cant have a springboard module in tht is bigger than the opening (the Mini Jam for one) one other thing is that the IR beam is on the side but that is only a minor inconvience because it is not used very often.
Overall the VD is an excellent product. It runs on palm software so there are pleanty of programs for it, the buttons work good (The satisfying click they make when you push them) and probably the best of all is the price which is great for a gadget person on a budget.

Very good |
I've had my visor for a few weeks now, and my only complaint is that I agree with most people that the cover is rather annoying. Also, it seems to consume batteries a bit quickly, although I have had no experience with 3Com products for comparison, and that may simply be due to my high usage :-). 8MB is a lot of memory, and overall the Visor Deluxe is a great value.

Great product for the price. |
Highly recommended after using it for a month. Great value vs. other Palms, nice screen, but seems a bit plastic-y. Overall, rates an 8/10.

Visor Delux and MAC |
Handspring and Macs don’t go well together yet. There are some serious problems.
1) There are no links that can be used with MAC. Therefore it is impossible to merge or transfer data from other programs into Springboard. A long address list must be entered by hand.
2) Expenses can be placed only on a spreadsheet by Microsoft Excel. If This is not available, the expenses are no more than a list.
3) There seems to be a conflict with Internet Explorer. Often, not always, when the Mac goes to sleep because of the energy saver, there is a total crash. The Mac must be shut down by using the on off button.
4) Norrton Utilities has had to fix a number of problems with the file. The bundle bit is on but should be off in Hotsync and Palm desktop. This is no big deal, but on every uninstall - the disk must be examined. Because of problems with Synchronize, the uninstall-install operation must be performed often.
5) By mistake, synchronization was tried when the hot since control was disabled rather than enabled. Caused a major crash where the Mac could be reset only by unplugging it from the wall. There needs to be a warning before this happens.
Because there seems to be constant problems with HotSync that can be solved only be uninstall-install, the disk must be checked frequently by Norton Disk Dr. This is annoying and time consuming.
Tech support can be easily reached only at 8:00 AM Eastern Standard Time. After that there is a long wait. Because they have been so successful, they have had to add new tech support people rapidly. It is possible to talk to a tech person whose knowledge is so limited that the problem can not be solved. They are aware of this and are trying to solve it. This will take time.
Some games that are downloaded are great to play, but there can be no synchronization. Thus the game must be removed, and there will be another uninstall-install operation, and disk examination.
A great tool for PC, but there are major problems with the MAC. When solved, it will be great, but not now.
