It's the size more than anything |
I've had my Thincom for a month or so now and I love it. It never leaves my Visor, it doesn't need to. It's as if you have the original plastic cover in, it's the exact same size. Two things I don't like: it feels kind of cheap and plasticy. I later realized that it doesn't matter because it's fine in the Springboard slot and makes for an unnoticeable weight increase. The other problem is that I felt 2 things are wrong with the cord. One, it's a little too long for carrying it with you on a daily basis. And Two, it's a male plug on the end. This means that you are likely to have to crawl around under a desk in the dust bunnies to plug in. It should be a female connection so you can quickly unplug a phone and use that cord. Other than those minor issues, I love it!

Some additional considerations |
Do not own a Thincom as I opted for the handspring modem. I noted that the Thincom is not fax compliant and that a special dongle cord was required. I have lost too many of those.

Everything you said it was!! |
Just received my thincom modem today from amazon.com and it's everyting you said it was! It took awhile, however to find a free ISP that was Palm compatable but once I got past that hurdle, it was smooth sailing! Thanks for such an accurate review!

Best Bang for the Buck |
What can I say, I bought this modem springboard for the same reason I bought my visor. You get more for your money. It works great with every application I throw at it, it has a wonderful setup application (not like I needed it, but it's there, nice touch..). But it also has some useless software that comes with it. I suggest proxiweb for a webbrowser, and handmail for email. they are by far the best at what they do IMO :) 10 of 10

Works as advertised. |
The company is working on a way to
update the software in the module
so you don't have to use system
RAM for the applications (data
will still go in system RAM).

Excellent Modem! |
Definitely an excellent modem. There are some weird problems I have come across. When dialing from home the pause (comma) does not have a long enough pause. I have to put 5 commas to get enough of a delay otherwise it won't dial properly.

The Perfect Modem |
THis does what it says it will do. The review is dead on. The unit arrived on the day it was scheduled and worked the first time. Very nicely done.

A Fine Product |
Been using the Handspring Modem and the Thincom. The Thincom is equally as good if not better than the Handspring. It certainly is easier to carry and use - even with having to carry the connection cable. Ease of setup is a plus. There are better web browers available than that Thincom provides.

A few caveats! |
A great product but here's what
the reviewer left out:
- If you using NT as your station,
you have to pull the modem out to
Sync (sent an email to manufacturer
about that, but got no response).
- Dont ask me why, but seems to
lock the IR port (can't beam),
again just pull it out, but a
nusense
- The browser requires a
ProxyServer, download KBRowse
instead

Great product! |
Easy set up! I was downloading my mail within 10 minutes. Works like a champ! I don't have to pack the laptop for trips now.
