International Data Corp is predicting that annual sales of handheld devices will more than triple from 5.4 million units worldwide in 1999 to 18.9 million units in 2003. The combination of handheld devices and wireless technology is one of the reasons sales are expected to increase.
While on one knows who will be selling those 18.9 million units in 2003, as of now, Palm operating system-based products, primarily from Palm Computing, continues to dominate the market.
This year 83.5 percent of all palm-sized devices sold were using Palm OS, compared to 9.7 percent using Windows CE.
